Is this normal after getting an in-growing toe nail removed ?

Hi ,

I had an in-growing toe nail removed , the nail is completely away and the bed destroyed , however its been a week and it is blackish where it had been removed and also leeks .... when will this stop

ThanksIs this normal after getting an in-growing toe nail removed ?
Don't worry. The blackish area is probably due to phenol that was used to kill off any small area of nail-bed that could have been left behind during the surgery. It is not always easy to see when the nail bed ends, especially in the corners so this chemical is often used to complete the job. If any small area of nail bed remains, then that part of the nail may regrow, and clearly this is to be avoided.

The leakage is probably due to a mild superficial infection, and bathing the toe in antiseptic solution, or putting on an antiseptic cream may help this to subside faster. Dont use peroxide. Keep the toe clean. It will clear up soon.

The blackish area will slowly over the next week or so separate as the tissue beneath it heals, and it will eventually come off like a scab. Nothing need to be done.Is this normal after getting an in-growing toe nail removed ?
It is ok for drainage to occur if it was infected. The blackish could be a bruise from the doctor digging too deep, from the chemical they use to kill the nail bed. I hope that you have a follow up visit with the doctor.
Treat it with Peroxide to boil out any infection. Then rub antibiotic type cream on it to help the healing process. Wear white sox. The dye from colored socks can cause problems. It will take several months for the nail to completely grow back.
Ive had ingrowns removed since i was 4, and this has never happend to me before, usually its just painful and sensitive, and your nail sometimes doesnt grow back.
