Are toe nail infections dangerous?
A couple days ago I accidently dropped a suitcase on my big toe and the toe nail got pulled all the way back and is only connected by the root. I've been applying neosporin inside the nail then covering it with a bandaid. It still hurts pretty band-aid. im planning on going to the doctors tommorow. if it does get infected, is it curable?Big toe nail got ripped off! What should I do?
The purpose of fingernails and toenails are for protection from trauma to the ends of our toes and fingers. It is perfectly normal for a nail to fall off due to stumping or smashing it. Just keep site clean and free from dirt and bacteria--keep applying the neosporin and keep band-aid over the site. The nail bed will be sore due to no protection but it will be get better as new nail grows. Big toe nail got ripped off! What should I do?
He will probably pull it away and let the new one grow.
It could also be possible though to reattach sides of the nail and have it grow back into the finger. Ask the doc tomorrow.
Since you keep an eye on it, you'll be able to catch the infection early, so you won't lose the toe. But neosphorine should def suffice for now.
You should be fine. The nail will probably fall off and will look weird for a while but luckily we are going into fall. By spring it should look normal again. If it is infected they can give you antibiotics or a shot. Unless you have been dragging your foot in a bacteria infected swamp you should be fine.
