Is it harmful to put nail polish on baby's finger nails and toe nails?

my daughter is 17 months but i heard that the chemicals in the polish might be bad for babies.Is it harmful to put nail polish on baby's finger nails and toe nails?
i wouldn't use regular nail polish that you get at a grocery store. that stuff is HIGHLY toxic!





they do make non toxic nail polishes %26amp; removers. i use the non toxic on my daughter's toe nails. i DO NOT put it on her fingernails however, as she would still ingest it any time she put her hands in her mouth.

Gosh people, lighten up. I have seen it done and think it's cute, but personally I wouldn't want my kiddo to have paint, cause (well, he's a boy) his fingers are in his mouth all the time. And nail polish chips pretty easily. Your daughter probably shouldn't be ingesting paint, but if she doesn't put her hands in her mouth, then I don't see why not.

why would you want to make your child look older and put paint on them? let your baby be a baby. but her paints instead, let her paint on paper, on her face, tummy etc.





but please dont use chemical cosmetics on your child.
It's not the best thing for them - look at how many times her fingers and toes are in her mouth. Do you want her ingesting nail polish? Probably not. Wait until she's significantly older and not apt to stick her fingers and toes in her mouth!
Yes, it is harmful. Do NOT do this. Babies/Toddlers are always putting their fingers in their mouths, do you really want her ingesting nail polish? Wait until she is at least 4 years old. Seriously.

Babies suck their fingers so whatever you put on her nails will end up in her stomach.


Why don't you try drinking a little from the bottle then you will know for sure if its harmful or not.
It's probably not harmful. Some people use nail polish to tell identical twin babies apart.
I don't know about that, but my friend's sister used to use a little paint brush to do her baby's nails.
It's not necessary to do. I don't know if it's harmful or not, but I'd wait til she's older anyway.
yeah bc babies often put their fingers in their mouth so I'd say wait. I didnt get my nails first done til I was 6 yrs old.

NO it's not harmful, its not like your putting make up on her, not sure why people think its inappropriate. People get their baby girls ears pierced, but think finger nail polish isn't age appropriate? Explain that. But to answer your question, no it is not harmful to your baby. Just make sure it dries, so she can't stick it in her mouth.
