Depending on who you listen to, fingernails grow two to three times faster than toenails. A fingernail replaces itself in about six months; a toenail takes a year. Feet are farthest afield in the circulatory scheme of things. A better blood supply to the fingers probably keeps them chugging along at a faster clip. Genetics plays a role too. Nails are basically protective, and since our fingers are busier than our toes, maybe they're more likely to get smashed and need replacing.
There is some speculation that fingernails' constant exposure to sun and air may aid their growth. Feet are locked up in damp, dark shoes most of the time, a more encouraging environment for cultivating fungus and smells instead of nails. Why does finger nails grow faster than toe nail??
blood circulation. your hands, including fingers tips, do alot more than feet. Why does finger nails grow faster than toe nail??
Probably because they get used more so they need to be replaced faster.

Is it ok to ignore a thick discolored big toe nail if it is not sore ?
While it isn't dangerous, it is unsitely. It is most likely a fungus living in/under the toe nail. It can usually be easily brought back to it's normal condition by applying Tea Tree Oil a couple times a day. You can find Tea Tree Oil at any pharmacy. Is it ok to ignore a thick discolored big toe nail if it is not sore ?
Yes. you have a fungal infection under the nail. There are drugs you can take but it is really only a cosmetic issue. Be careful when you trim or clean the nail so you don't spread the infection from one nail to another. Is it ok to ignore a thick discolored big toe nail if it is not sore ?
Whereas the most likely etiology for a thick discolored big toe nail is a fungal infection, which can be ignored (unless you have an underlying disorder such as diabetes or cancer or immunodeficiency state), there are other reasons for a nail such as that, such as a melanoma. In addition, thyroid disorders, trauma, inflammatory conditions such as psoriasis, and other rarer entities can make your nail look that way. You might want to get it looked at, including a culture for fungi. If that is negative, then you might even need a biopsy of it.

Best and fastest way to get rid of under toe nail fungus?
big toe nail dark colored, hard. and hard to clipBest and fastest way to get rid of under toe nail fungus?
Hi
unfortunately there is not a ';best solution.';
there are two ways to to try to treat the fungus.
1. Using chemically produced, comercial products - such as Lamisil (Terbinafine), Diflucan (Flucanazole) and Sporanox (Itraconazole) to name but 3 - these are usually taken oraly and in tablet form. There are possible side effects though with nearly all of the comercial prodcucts - although the side affects are mild and short term you should be aware that they exist before under taking treatment. This course of action can usually become very expensive resulting in hundreds of pounds.
2. Natural Home Remedy - such as a vinegar soak or spray, Tea Tree Oil or Oregano oil.
These have less harmful side effects (if any) and are reletively inexpensive.
So, dont think fastest - think best.
Fungi thrives in damp warm environments - so try to create a hostile home not a inviting one.
A personal recommendation would be anything acidic - (ie vinegar)
Allocate a ten minute slot in the morning and a ten minute slot at night and soak your feet - do this for 6 months even after you think the fungus has gone.
....And clip that toenail - and rough it up a bit with an emery board as the (vinegar/Tea tree oil) will not only need to get beneath the nail but into the nail material.Best and fastest way to get rid of under toe nail fungus?
I had the same problem............. don't use over the counter stuff.... get a doctor to prescribe Lamisil... this is taken in pill form.... it works.
See a podiatrist.
LAMISIL. its expensive but it works. the over-the counter stuff isn't great but its more affordable if you don't have the money.
My doctor told me to apply a thin coat of vaseline on the nail 2xday for 8 weeks. He read in some Northwestern article that this method is supposed to be very effecitve. He told me Lamisil is hard on the liver and the nail polish stuff is not very effective and you have to use it for a long time.
Lamasil Cream, or believe it or not, proven method...Vicks Vaporub.
To get rid of toenail fungus, and prevent it from spreading, here are some tips.
1. Put anti-fungal powder or spray in your shoes to help fight off the fungus.
2. Air your shoes, and don't wear them if they are wet.
3. Change your insoles frequently, and make sure they dry out between use.
4. Bleach out the shower on a weekly basis.
5. Wash your shower mat weekly.
6. Wear sandals in the gym and don't walk around barefoot in public.
7. Try not to cause trauma to your toes. Trauma is the biggest reason why people end up with nail fungus.
8. Keep your nails short, but not to the point where they begin to bleed.
In summing up, there are different treatments to consider if you have toenail fungus. Always try and prevent nail fungus in the first place.
If you do have to use a treatment, find something which is natural and that won't damage your health.
See a doctor for prescription meds
Lamisil AT (preferrably the pill form [which I believe is only available with a prescription]) over the creams, but they work OK too.
soak your feet in as hot a pan of wateras you can stand that has a disinfectant liquid soap=brush your nails with a soft childs toothbrush(at $ store for a buck) and if this doesn,t heal them within a few days see a Dr
As someone else mentioned, see a podiatrist (foot dr). The dr can clip the tips (dead, white part) of your nails and have you take it to a lab to be examined (can take few weeks for diagnosis) to find out if it is fungus or something else. If it is fungus, the dr may be able to prescribe either lamasil (but can be very tough on the liver) or a nail polish type of medication for the fungus. I believe that if it is fungus, that it can take several months for the healthy nail to grow in.
And I have heard of using vicks vapor rub on toenail fungus, however, please do get a definitive diagnosis from a podiatrist. And please do Not use tea tree oil as a podiatrist had told me that it was not regulated as to how safe it is.

Is this normal after getting an in-growing toe nail removed ?
Hi ,
I had an in-growing toe nail removed , the nail is completely away and the bed destroyed , however its been a week and it is blackish where it had been removed and also leeks .... when will this stop
ThanksIs this normal after getting an in-growing toe nail removed ?
Don't worry. The blackish area is probably due to phenol that was used to kill off any small area of nail-bed that could have been left behind during the surgery. It is not always easy to see when the nail bed ends, especially in the corners so this chemical is often used to complete the job. If any small area of nail bed remains, then that part of the nail may regrow, and clearly this is to be avoided.
The leakage is probably due to a mild superficial infection, and bathing the toe in antiseptic solution, or putting on an antiseptic cream may help this to subside faster. Dont use peroxide. Keep the toe clean. It will clear up soon.
The blackish area will slowly over the next week or so separate as the tissue beneath it heals, and it will eventually come off like a scab. Nothing need to be done.Is this normal after getting an in-growing toe nail removed ?
It is ok for drainage to occur if it was infected. The blackish could be a bruise from the doctor digging too deep, from the chemical they use to kill the nail bed. I hope that you have a follow up visit with the doctor.
Treat it with Peroxide to boil out any infection. Then rub antibiotic type cream on it to help the healing process. Wear white sox. The dye from colored socks can cause problems. It will take several months for the nail to completely grow back.
Ive had ingrowns removed since i was 4, and this has never happend to me before, usually its just painful and sensitive, and your nail sometimes doesnt grow back.

Stubbed toe and ripped toe nail - bleeding under nail bed. How do I treat it?
Panicked. I don't want an infection. There's still a lot of nail there that I'm nervous to cut off... It just happened and I wrapped a thick paper towel around it. I'm a serious ninny with my own blood. I get panicky and scared and woozy and stuff............ What the heck am I supposed to do???!?!??!?!Stubbed toe and ripped toe nail - bleeding under nail bed. How do I treat it?
aw its ok!
just keep applying pressure to it. does it hurt? take a pain killer maybe
if its bad enough just go to a little clinic, like where i live a have a little walk in clinic.
dont panic ok?
your body will heal itself =)Stubbed toe and ripped toe nail - bleeding under nail bed. How do I treat it?
The best thing you can do is trim the toenail as much as you can so it doesn't get caught on anything. Then you can put a fingertip band-aid or regular one as close to the tip as possible. It usually will stop bleeding pretty quick as long as it doesn't get caught on something else.

Does anyone have a true CURE for toe nail fungus?
here's the tricky part...
i know the pills are effective. my father used them and they worked great. only problem is they do come with side effects.
i'm looking for a external solution to bad toenail fungus. it's been there in the toes for some 15 years... i know, gross, but i've tried a ton of different cremes and none work completely. they start the job but in the end the fungus wins every time. i want the best creme used in extreme fungus alerts.
thanks people!Does anyone have a true CURE for toe nail fungus?
Hi Spark
They sell several topical solutions but I think that if you soak your toes in hydrogen peroxide for about 10 minutes a day for about a week that will take care of the problem also wear white sox for a while as the dyes in colored sox can cause some fungus to grow ( I had athlete foot problemd all the time till I changed to just white sox)Does anyone have a true CURE for toe nail fungus?
Nail fungus, is a condition that affects the nail of around 6% to 8% of the adult population. A change in color, thickening of the nail, becoming brittle, or rippled nail may be a sign of nail fungus. But it can be cured.
See http://www.squidoo.com/nail-fungus... for more
Some people have had good results by using Vick's Vaporub (the menthol chest rub for colds). It is cheap and has no side effects.
Cut your toes off.
Go to a good foot doctor and tell the doctor what you wrote to us. I sure they would know better. Good luck.
pills work, i give them to all my patients.. you will have to do some bloodwork for liver function called LFT's but if you are young and otherwise healthy, you should have clearer nails in 8 months or so
There is a clear nail polish that you can get by prescription from a doctor. I believe it is called penlac. It will get rid of fungal problems with toe-nails. The over the counter creams are generally not that effective.
Try some tea tree oil otherwise known as melaleuca alternifolia. It's from a tree in Australia and is found in most herb shops or Walmart or drug store. It's natural. It kills fungus, germs, and is a great pesticide. Even gets rid of head lice with a few drops to shampoo and conditioner.
RX: wash foot with soap( if liquid you can add two drops to it) %26amp; water then dry completely. drop 4 drops to infected area. place a clean cotton cloth or sock on foot. do this 2x's a day until 1 week after complete signs are gone. Remember it didn't get there over night it won't go away over night job, but it will get the job done. I know I had it just about the same as you.
Basically toe nail fungus is in most cases hereditary. If you do not want to take the pills then there is another option (i would go for the pills personally), but it is entirely up to you!
You will need to get a referral from you doctor or in some cases it can be performed at a local surgery. They basically Make an incision above the cuticle where the nerve is and cut out the infected area, this is what is causing you nail to grow fungus, once this is done your nail will grow normal and healthy. Do not be to scared, most people that have this treatment go home almost immediately without any complications. The area will be numb from the local anaesthetic and any if any pain (which should be minimal) can be minimised by simple pain killers.applying make up

Before toe-nail clippers, what did people do?
I could see, if you didn't have the technology, that maybe you could just chew off your fingernails. But toenails? You'd have to have a very dear friend indeed. Before toe-nail clippers, what did people do?
They used all kinds of material, like stone or normal scissors or knife or fingernails. And if you're a caveman, and walked barefoot, the nails weared simply off. Before toe-nail clippers, what did people do?
walked around with some long a** toe nails lol just kidding they had no shoes the ground more than likely wore them off
Chomp, chomp, chomp........
Maybe they had scissors?
bite their toenail (gross....ugh)
They peeled them off with their fingernails
eww they probably did what my husband does which is rip them off with his fingers. Or they might of bit them off. or they could of cut them off with rocks.
Scissors have been around a long time.
Im sure that they used their mouths and bit off the nails, what else could the do? or maybe they would just not cut them...keep emlong a pretty :) maybe not pretty but the bit them of...when i have no clippers... I bit my finger nails!
Used rocks.
I have noticed that after they grow a certain length, you can peel the top part fairly easy without hurting or taking your toe nails off. A rock such as sand stone would also work.
let them grow and naturally break
Hmm good question
You could take a knife and cut them off, or, like my wife, be very flexible to bite them off, which she still does
Pick at them and tear them across, same as fingernails for the non-manicured.
Who knows, prob chewed them off lol
Shoot, you just put your foot up to your mouth, and bite those suckers down.
the days before clippers were also the days before MickeyD's and stuff and in our previously svelte form, we were flexible enough to bite our toenails.. a bit of extra protein to boot hehe

xWhat shall i do with my toe nail clippings?
Why dont u bite your toenails off and then eat them...
failing that.. put your foot in a plastic bag when you cut them..it's what i do :)What shall i do with my toe nail clippings?
Before cutting your toe nails soak them in water (preferably warm water) for 2-3 minutes. It will make them soft. This can be useful while cutting fingers nails also.
You have to put them in warm water for 5 minutes of so. (or after a bath)
I put cream on mine but i dont think it makes a difference and then they dont fly around, then flush them away. -toodleo-
do it with ur foot pointing down to the toilet,
and cut them slowly, it works every time for me
Keep them on file!!??

How is the best way to toe-nail?
About an inch to an inch and one half up from the connection tap the nail once at 90 degrees to the wood. Now rotate the nail 45 to 60 degrees toward the second piece of wood and drive it home.
When doing studs on a bottom plate I'll prop my foot against the other side of the stud to keep it in place. I will use 6 7d nails on that connection, two in each side and one on each end.How is the best way to toe-nail?
straight accross and file the edgesHow is the best way to toe-nail?
its an art but ya hold the nail on an angle and tap lightly to stick then bang away adjust as needed
air nailer
Predrill a pilot hole on angle then nail. Takes a bit longer but no mishits, flying nails etc. Be sure to support from the other side so board doesn't slip.

I'd do a cream yellow, not too out there yet subtle. What color toe nail polish should i use with a yellow dress and black heels?
black.

cuz it'll go with everything.
and they will make the shoes look amazing. What color toe nail polish should i use with a yellow dress and black heels?
Hey-
Yellow dress and black heels...sounds really cute! :) i would choose either a hot pink or a hot red. Not
-black because you'll look too matchy matchy
-white is middle school
Hope that helps!
~j
Yellow dress and black heels...sounds pretty!! :D
I would go with either a soft yellow, black, or a sunset orange. It would match up with your dress and your shoes :]
Bright yellow!
My favorite! Plus it'll match your dress.
Be sure to use a pretty shade (not that mustardy stuff) and use a topcoat.
Black. It would look nice with the shoes. :D Which in turn looks good with the dress.
Black. It would just match everything up nicely with the dress and your heels.
REd. If you use black it will not stand out and you will end up looking like a bumble bee.
I'd choose white cause it match with everything!!!
French Manicure, or if not that, do white or pearly pink
I would use a creamy, pearly pink.
not white! do either bright purple or red.
bright red, im in fashion . id know . welcome

What are the causes of a red/swollen portion of a toe, near the nail?
My big toe on the right foot has a swollen portion, near where the nail and skin meets. It flares up every now and then and does not seem to correlate with getting a pedicure or my nails cut. What could be causing this, my toe rubbing up against my shoe or infection? What should I do to fix it?
ThanksWhat are the causes of a red/swollen portion of a toe, near the nail?
Could be the type of shoes you wear. The top of the red area could be rubbing up against thread fibers that can harden overtime. If it turns into a bubble, then watch out-could be athlete's foot. What are the causes of a red/swollen portion of a toe, near the nail?
It sounds like the start of an ingrown toenail. Soak your foot in warm water for 15 minutes a day. If that doesn't help, then see your doc.
If it persist or begins to bleed you may want to see a doctor. Could potentially be an ingrown toe nail.

Cracked big toe nail what to do?
I crack my big toe nail from about the top medial, about half way down, and all the way to the side of my toe. i was at school when it happened and the schools athletic trainer said i need to cut it off with nail cutters but when i got home my mom said for me to just leave it alone. its really hurting what do you think i should do?Cracked big toe nail what to do?
I think that for now you should leave it alone because it might get infected if it is an open wound. But if the toe starts to swell or pus starts to form, go see your doctor. I wound not recommend cutting it off. Take some advil for the pain and go to a doc if the pain gets too bad.
best of luck and feel betterCracked big toe nail what to do?
That happened to me when i was little..
I dropped a scooter on it and it was a bruising color..
I cut it off, then it grew back to normal :]
so i think you should cut it..but its your choice

What color toe nail polish should i wear with a yellow dress and black heels?
Dark blue :] or a medium pink. What color toe nail polish should i wear with a yellow dress and black heels?
I'm going to be wearing a yellow dress but with silver shoes. I think I may go with a light pink nail polish.
What color toe nail polish should i wear with a yellow dress and black heels?
yellow and black outfit huh...black nails or hot pink. dont wear yellow, they're just not good unless u wear the normal yellow, no other or else ur nails look DEAD...same with braces and the color brown :). and the other person sed this but white is a good color too, and french tips are awesome :)
White, french or pearl white. These shades will make your legs look more tan. If you wear red nail polish, it will detract from the dress and shoes. You don't want to be adding more colours to draw the eye away from your face.
Dark Red or Light pink.
Dark red cuz it's Shines more. And people will notcie ur feet. ( kinda cute )
Light pink cuz it's pretty normal but also casual. Brights a light to the day
!
I'd wear white, kind of unexpected.
Black or yellow. :))

I have a black toe nail. will it grow out on its own or do i have to drain it out?
I don't want the whole nail to fall. HELP!!I have a black toe nail. will it grow out on its own or do i have to drain it out?
It will probably fall off eventually. If the nail is black and there's no pressure underneath it, there is probably nothing to drain.
If there is a blood filled pocket under the nail you should have it looked at.
It's not as bad as it sounds for the nail to fall off. It doesn't hurt unless you rip it off too soon and when it comes off it's just pink skin underneath. The new nail grows in very quickly, at least in my experience.I have a black toe nail. will it grow out on its own or do i have to drain it out?
It will either grow out on its own, or it may fall off. I had one that took 4 months to eventually be pushed off by the new nail growing under it. I had half a big toe nail for a while, but it grew in alright.

well i have had that happend only 2 my fingernail. i dropped a rock on it and it turned blue and black. it took my nail about 3weeks to come of completly(after about 2 weeks it wuz half off) and from the way it sounds i dont think your toe is broken and i think you will loose your nail. but dont freak. Im only 12 and my finger nail came off about a month ago and it has almost grown all the way back. once you lose your toe nail i promise you it wont hurt, in fact it will feel a lot better. you just have to keep it covered so it wont get infected.I bruised my big toe nail when a can fell on it its bruised light blue how long will it take to heal?
well my oldest brother had a motorcycle Crash with a deer at 50mph and got some broken bones and a broken big toe and his toe nail did not fall off but was black for a long time so yours will not fall off and feel your toe to see if anything feels broken if it feels like its fine then it just needs time to heal up
possibly ur toe nail night fall off but to prevent this you should put ice on it twice every hour and show it to a doctor.

My dog ripped out one of his toe nail and its bleeding real bad will the bleeding stop on its own?
Just put some corn starch in it and it should soon stop bleeding but if is a major thing and after a while that you have put on the corn starch it still bleeding than call a vet or just go directly to a vet lol hope it gets better. My dog ripped out one of his toe nail and its bleeding real bad will the bleeding stop on its own?
First, clean it has well as you can. Then you can put flour on it to stop the bleeding if it isn't gushing out. Then you need to wrap it up and take your dog to the vets asap, because you do not want him to get an infection. My dog ripped out one of his toe nail and its bleeding real bad will the bleeding stop on its own?
yes it should i would wrap it tho and put some neosporin on it and watch your gog so he doesnt lick it off (my cat loves neosporin and is always licking the tube)
also call your vet
pat some baking flower on it
you may want to clean it and hold a rag on it or something. and you may want to peroxide it so it doesn't get infected good luck
Dogs have a main vein there and if it doesn't stop then he can bleed to death. That has to be painful for him and he needs to see a vet. He will be able to clean it out really good and put him on anti biotics if needed. Then he will be able to tell you the best thing to use for bandages.
If the bleeding does not stop in minutes --- get to the vet. These powders people are speaking of will work temp. but depending on how it ripped out , if the powder gets licked off etc. -- he may need antibiotics %26amp; maybe a foot bandage. VET
sure because you only have so much blood..
Take it to the Vet..
Drive to the vet now

Does anyone have a sure cure for toe nail fungus?
What treatments work best?Does anyone have a sure cure for toe nail fungus?
For fungal infection under the toenail, there are not topical treatements that are much effective, unless the toenail is removed. Oral prescription medications can be very effective. You may have to take them for long periods and the fungus may recur. See your doctor. Don't take someone else's prescription medication.
Check out the link for much more information from the Mayo Clinic.Does anyone have a sure cure for toe nail fungus?
Big bucket or container (large enough to put both feet in) fill with warm water and plenty of vinegar, then place your feet in and let them soak for awhile. Really does help, plus relaxing and soughing. :) good luck
This may seem crazy. Try agricultural corn gluten meal. Make a paste of it and apply it to the toe nail, wrap it with gauze or cloth to hold the paste in place.
The agricultural corn gluten meal has a powerful antifungal property in it. I've never had to use it myself but other people I know swear by it.
Try this link. If you contact them, they might be able to tell you where to find it in your area.
You may have to shop around but you'll find it at gardening stores, particularly the ones that sell products for organic gardening.
Go to the doctor. I got a severe case when I was in the Navy and was prowling around in wet marshy areas. The Navy doc gave me a product called Lamisil. He told me that it is the best stuff but it only works on about 80% of the people that use it. Nothing over the counter is going to work.
Oregano Oil kills it quickly. You have to wait for the nails to grow out but you can see the new nail is healthy.

I read in cosmo that if you take a regular nail filer and file the top few layers of your toenails...it will get rid of the discoloration. if that does not work then you prolly do have some kind of fungas which you can treat.....but you may need to get it perscribed by a foot doctor....

WOULD YOU DATE SOMEONE WITH NOT A TOE NAIL?
A month ago l got my toe nail removed and well now lm scared that no one is goin to like me cuz of my toe. Maybe someone may go out with me but what if its like more than a year? How em l goin to tell him about my toe. Its goin to be so embarring and his probably going to break up with me cuz this is ugly and not cute.
Help so that when l do have a bf l will know how to handle it.
Thanks.WOULD YOU DATE SOMEONE WITH NOT A TOE NAIL?
Anyone who would judge you over lack of a toenail, isn't worth your time. It's not like there's a tumor on your face...it's a toenail, at your foot...one of the last things a guy is likely to notice.
Don't sweat it.WOULD YOU DATE SOMEONE WITH NOT A TOE NAIL?
First off, they probably won't even notice it.
Secondly, if they're worth anything, they won't care.... Unless they have a foot fetish, lol.
I'd date a guy who was missing a toe nail. But then again, girls usually have to put up with a lot of gross things from guys anyway. While guys tend to believe that girls don't have the ability to go number 2. lol
You'll be fine. Don't worry about it.
I wouldn't walk around showing it off. lol
But definitely don't worry about it.
It's just a toe.
=]
Girl, it's a toe nail. Don't worry about it. If a guy won't date you because of a toe nail, then they're jerks and you don't want to be with then anyway. I'd show that toe nail off, just so you can easily weed out the jerks.
... and if I'm not mistaken... toe nails do grow back.
um to be honest its just a toe...and if someone is so insecure that they cant like you cause of a toe nail thats stupid...your not missing a leg or a burn victim..its a toe nail. I would wear flip flops all the time to be comfy with your missing member...and i bet he doesnt even notice...unless he has a foot fetish..then who kows maybe he will like it
If the rest of your body is bangin then the one toe nail is no big deal to me. You can always slap a band aide on that toe and be good.
I'm not a toe or foot guy. If you date one of these guys then you might be in trouble.
i think it will be ok. If he likes you for the right reasons then it want matter. That is nothing to be embaresed about! It happens and alot more thinks in life are important you will see this thru life. Wait till you have kids much worst things will happen!!!
i don't think that it is weird at all. when i was younger my mum told me that no matter what you look like on the outside, its whats on the inside that counts. so if they dont like you, then its their fault. not yours.
=)
Lol yes....
LOL. my aunt had no problem attracting a man and marrying him and it didn't hurt her modeling career. Most people won't even notice unless you point it out to them.
It will eventually grow again. No boy worthwhile will mind a minor detail of a missing toenail. Think positive at least you have toes!
I don't think anyone will notice it expect a man with a foot fetish.
So you will get a boyfriend.
you could paint the stub...
seriously tho any guy to care about that is pretty shallow anyway.
For heaven's sake do you really think that matters? People have all sorts of disfigurements and cope OK.
Wear socks..........most guys won't be focused on your feet.
Luck
It's really not that big of a deal. It may be different but nothing bad.
wont it grow back?

My wife had the entire toe nails on both big toes removed, how long will it take them to grow back a nice nail
if they were removed all the way to the matrix, they won't grow back.

Please Help. What Kind Of Pain Medince Do They Give You For Toe Nail Removal.?
more than likely, they'll send you home with either percocet or vicodin depending on your age.
if you're in your teens or younger-you might get tylenol with codeine or be told to take regular over the counter pain medication.
hope this helps!!What Kind Of Pain Medince Do They Give You For Toe Nail Removal.?
They won't prescribe any pain medication for you.
But will suggest paracetamol.
To help with the pain of the removal they inject 2% Lidocaine near the nail and around the edges to numb it all up.
This numbness will stay for a few hours.
Enough time for the paracetamol to work.

Has anyone ever gotten an ingrown toe nail removed?
How bad does it hurt to get removed?Has anyone ever gotten an ingrown toe nail removed?
It is common for people to get ingrown toenail(s). Any procedure done to the body usually will cause some discomfort after the numbing agent has worn off. Try reading up on ingrown toenails.
Ingrown toenail, or onychocryptosis, is a commonly encountered problem in family practice. Patients usually present with pain in the affected nail but with progression, drainage, infection, and difficulty walking occur. Most patients present with ingrown toenail during the second and third decades of life, but teenagers often develop ingrown toenails after tearing the corners of their toenails.
The cure for an ingrown toenail usually involves numbing the toe with a local anesthetic such a lidocaine or novocaine. The toe will be completely numb by the anesthetic, and there will absolutely no pain during the procedure. Then approximately an 1/8 inch section of the nail plate will be removed from the painful corner. If an infection is present, it will be treated at the same time. If the root is not treated, then the abnormally growing nail plate will grow back in the same place and cause a similar problem again within a few months.
After treatment a small dressing is placed on the toe and a regular shoe can be worn. Some people prefer to wear a wider shoe, tennis shoe, or an open sandal. The foot is soaked in warm water and the dressing is changed at home the following dayHas anyone ever gotten an ingrown toe nail removed?
Antibiotic ointment is applied, a bulky gauze dressing is placed, and the patient's foot is put in a disposable surgical slipper. The patient should apply antibiotic ointment daily until healing is complete. The patient should be given the instruction sheet and told to take ibuprofen (Motrin) and acetaminophen (Tylenol) for postoperative pain. Daily cleansing with warm water is encouraged, and strenuous exercise is discouraged for at least one week.
I will give you a web site below to read up on.
If its your toe, hope it feels better soon!!
A lot less than the ingrown nail did. I think he sprayed it with something first, but I was flat on my back at the time and really couldn't see too much.
I've had them removed plenty. Honestly, it hurts really bad (to me). Each time the pain was different (probably because of different doctors) but still hurt all the same. If you are going to have this done (and you should, if needed, because if infection sets in it will hurt alot worse) talk to your doctor about prescription meds to take at home for pain (because alot of them want to just send you home with over the counter pills and I promise you won't be able to sleep at night).
I had my big toenail and the nail next to it removed from both feet. I had it done by a plastic surgeon and the result was good. They freeze your toes with needles at the base of the toes ( a nerve block). I would take a couple tylenol 3 about 20 minutes before going in because the needles hurt - they're going after the main nerves. The surgery doesn't hurt, but when the freezing starts to wear off, the pain comes fast and furious. Every nerve ending is screaming bloody murder! I would advise a narcotic, even though I was told that tylenol would be enough! Morphine is the only way I got through the first 2 days. By day 2 you start soaking it in salt water and this speeds up the healing. Really, it's 2 days of tough pain, and you can't move around any more than to go to the bathroom, or it will be hard to get the bleeding to stop once and for all. Make sure you have someone to help you around the house, make meals, etc. I only had my 6 yr old at home, and a few friends who came by to take my daughter out for a while so she wouldn't be overwhelmed by seeing me in such pain, and to help out for an hour or two. Now my toes are painfree and I'm glad I did it and it's over.
I had surgery on both my big toenails, both with very bad long-term infection (';long-term'; as in a few years' worth), just after graduating high school in 1996. I was nervous enough almost to throw up. The podiatrist was great--he told me he'd already performed the operation on a few of his grandkids. He used topical anesthetic to numb the area, then a few injections to totally numb each big toe inside and out. The injections pinched a bit, but honestly the worst part was my own nervousness. After the pinch of the injections, there was absolutely no pain at any point during the surgery or the recovery--the doctor waited for the injected anesthetic to set in, and then carefully tested all areas of each toe to make absolutely sure there would be no pain. The sense of pressure and movement in the numbed toes as the doctor removed lots of necrotic tissue and a large portion of one nail bed was highly disturbing, but as I said, I never felt any pain of any sort, not even any more pinching. I lay on my back and forced myself to focus on the magazine I'd brought from the waiting room, keeping it propped on my belly to block sight of my feet. Earphones are also a good idea if you're worried about sounds. After the operation, my toes were wrapped in huge amounts of gauze that was taped to my feet, and I had special slippers to wear instead of shoes. I went with my mom from the doctor's office to the mall, where I walked (hobbled) inside under my own power and sat in the food court for lunch. It was awkward walking with the gauze, but never painful. I had a solution to mix up and douse the gauze three times a day, to prevent infection and aid healing--maybe it also contained anesthetic. After some days, I returned to the doctor and he removed the thick gauze and replaced it with lighter wrappings, saying everything was healing very well. And eventually the gauze was removed entirely, and healing was complete. And, like I said, I never once had any pain, whether during the operation or after. Never needed any painkillers (and I'm a whimp when it comes to pain from any kind of surgery). To this day, I'd rather go through that whole operation and recovery again than go to the dentist for a routine tooth-cleaning.
my husband did. the injections to numb the area was painful but the removal wasn't. his grew back. good luckapplying make up

Will an ingrown toe nail eventually grow out?
My child has had one for a while now. We soak it in warm water and epson salt, but I don't think it's helping. He's afraid to go to the doctor, so we are trying to take care of it on our own before we go that route. Any idea's or suggestions? Will an ingrown toe nail eventually grow out?
No!!!! It will only get worse. Go to the doctor too have it lanced and get anti-biotic. You will also need to soak it in warm water and Epsom salt after it's lancedWill an ingrown toe nail eventually grow out?
It should grow out. But it also depends on the shape of your son's toe. My son always has ingrown toe nails. But he's got what I like to call chubby toes. So there isn't much room for a full size nail. He had to go to the doctor to get them removed. Both big toes ended up infected. He will be going in to get them permanently taken care of.
Anyway, you're doing the right thing by soaking. If you can, try to file the part of the nail that is going into the skin so it's not sharp. If it's looking like there is an infection you should make an appointment. It's not fun, but my son was very grateful after wards.
I have had them.. a friend of mine just came from the hospital with one that she had for several months.. The chances of it ';growing out'; are practically NIL.. they can only get worse.. and oh, they are so painful.
THAT WILL SOFTEN THE NAIL AND SHOULD BE CUT OUT B4 INFECTION EITHER YOU OR DOCTOR
i don't know
yes
when u use a nail clipper you have to cut straight across not rounded like you would think! I had one and had to go to docs, but didnt feel any pain because he used a needle to kill pain...
it really stinks but it can get worse if you dont go to doc...I was stubborn too and wouldnt go then it got really infected and had pus and blood.
It will not heal itself. I don't know who told you it will but you need to go see a Podiatrist. It will get infected. Why? Because its growing into the skin of the toe itself. By doing this, it gets more tender and painful and becomes at risk of infection because of all the bacteria growing on the foot due to sweating and such. I only tell you this from my own experience and not from tooting about something i know nothing about. Good luck.
could get infected with green puss watch it carefully
an ingrown toenail needs to be cut to prevent it from getting anyworse, better yet treat it. Soaking it in warm water and epsom salt is probably best after you cut it.
Since an ingrown toenail grows into the skin, the only way to treat it is by cutting it. It is not going to fall off on it's own or anything.... so cut it. =)
Some do and some don't. If you child is in pain, he should see a physician. If your insurance will allow it and you can get in, a podiatrist would be your best bet as they are trained in this.
You really need to bring him to the doctors before he gets an infection in that foot then things will get even worse. You should soak it in warm soapy water till his feet get pruney then just yank it, wrap it in a bandage and neosporin and your all good
He's going to have to take the pain at home or a doctor. Have him soak his foot with warm water, then pull back on the side and start digging the ingrown part out. Once it peeks, cut it and apply pressure in case there is infection, you can drain it out. Its gonna hurt, but it has to be done! :(
You can cut a v shape in the middle of the nail just through the white this will draw the nail together. You can also at the same time pack small amounts of cotton wool in the side that's cutting into the skin (push it in using the side of a cocktail stick). This should allow the nail to grow out of the skin. If this doesn't work he'll have to get an operation which involves removing the half of the nail casuing the problems under a local anaesthetic.
eventually
no it will not grow out... take the kid to the doctor before the school calls dcfs on you for neglect!
Well, when I had an ingrown toenail, the best things that helped me were soaking it in epsom salt, like you mentioned in your question, but I would advise that you go to the doctor because he probably would need antibiotics before it becomes a STAFF infection. The sooner you get him to a doctor the better. And if he's afraid of the doctor, he should be going anyway because it would be good for him to get over that fear for a few reasons..
Yes mine did.But watch putting on socks.

Is it true that Vicks vapor rub/mentholatum can rid one of toe nail fungus?
I was told this by a podiatristIs it true that Vicks vapor rub/mentholatum can rid one of toe nail fungus?
Yeah, I suppose it would work but there are a host of other unorthodox remedies that will work as well. For sure I can tell you to avoid a Rx product known by it's commercial name, Lamisil. It's reportedly a potent oral antifungal agent that can really do a number on a person's liver. Now tell me: Is it worth damaging your liver to rid yourself of toenail fungus? I think your answer is a resounding ';No!'; It's also very expensive costing upwards of $100/month. There's no doubt that the maker of the stuff is protecting it's patents to it and rigging the price as high as they can get away with. I've had recurring bouts of toenail fungus for several years. I've always beens an avid walker so my feet get sweaty, which fungi love; however, I've had success using ordinary kitchen vinegar. Fungus hates an acidic environment which is essential what gives vinegar its sour taste - acid. So if you use the stuff twice a day dabbing it on the affected toes I can assure you postive results. I've found a useful website for you to refer to: http://www.healthguidance.org/entry/4948鈥?/a>Is it true that Vicks vapor rub/mentholatum can rid one of toe nail fungus?
A Podiatrist is a Medical Doctor that specializes in the foot...so I'm pretty certain that if he/she recommended Vicks for your foot fungus, then I'd definitely try it.
Unfortunately toenail fungus is difficult to treat because your feet are warm .... The cure is so simple. Take distilled white vinegar and put drops on your toes in a bowl of water.
Its news to me there this pill for your nails but its exipensive and its not good for your liver and kidneys ask your doctor.
I actually just read that in a medical column in the newspaper...guess you could try it to see.
Probably not. Try tea tree oil, this will kill all fungus. (by comparison, vinegar will kill about 80% of all mold types, and mold is a fungus) I've been using tea tree oil on mine for about three weeks and half the hard encrustation under the toenail is gone; I can dig out a little more each day with the end of a nail file. Now I have a big space under half of my toenail that used to be packed with hard crust from the fungus.
I just put a few drops of tea tree oil under the edge of my toenail and let it soak in; I do this in the morning and again at night. It is having a devastating effect on the toenail fungus.
Fungus grows with water, so diluting vinegar with water (when vinegar is already diluted with water) is putting mainly water on the fungus. If you use pure tea tree oil there is no water at all, and this seems to me to be a much better idea.
Just telling you what I know works.

My 11 year old has an ingrown toe nail.the doctor said to do nothing but salt water bath.does this seem right?
im a little worried it could get worse.i remeber being similiar age and the doctor cutting the nail back .any input into ingrown toenails wiht kids would be good.thanksMy 11 year old has an ingrown toe nail.the doctor said to do nothing but salt water bath.does this seem right?
I had an ingrown toenail that I nursed for months thinking I'd be able to get it better. I put antiseptic oint on it, soaked it,,, Just kept getting worse. It was so painful - I never realized how extremely painful an ingrown toenail could be.
FINALLY I went to a podiatrist. He cut the nail and it instantly felt better. When he showed me the nail - a sharp pointy end had been digging under the skin at the side, there was no way it would have gotten better with my own treatments.
It your son's nail isn't getting better, just take him to a podiatrist - very quick and easy treatment by a professional and he'll be so much better. My 11 year old has an ingrown toe nail.the doctor said to do nothing but salt water bath.does this seem right?
Cut a V into the centre of his toe nail to encourage it to grow away from the sides and into the centre of his nail. This normally works. And yes what your doctor said will help with any infection.
no... my friend had an ingrown toenail
she had surgery to get it removed
i dont know what your doctors thinking!

How can I get rid of this toe nail fungus?
See your Doc, ask for Lamisil Tablets (Google it, see if it looks good for you..). Takes up to nine months, but you'll love the results. Read up on the side affects before you pay for the script....you might not be okay with them.
Hope you find a solution! How can I get rid of this toe nail fungus?
you have 2 choices:
1. Go to the dr., pay his fee and get a prescription.
Takes about a month to completely cure the fungus.
2. Get a jar of vick's vapor rub and apply to nail fungus 2 or three times a day.
Takes about a month to completely cure the fungus. How can I get rid of this toe nail fungus?
Go to your doctor the over the counter remedies are a waste of money. I took the Lamisil and it worked fine. He will do a blood test at the end to check for liver damage because that is one of the side effects. good luck
go to the doctor.....
use compho phynique
TRY THIS FOR TWO WEEKS; cost $10.
What you need:
Get a used tooth brush and clean it well with hot soap and water.
Buy liquid toe nail fungus - comes in a small bottle with a brush at Walgreens, about $6-$9 no more.
Buy a few cheap emery boards (file for nails).
Have a very sharp small knife ONLY if you are handy with knives.
1. Cut the affected nails to the healthy skin underneath - you may have to ';shave'; off the tips of the nails with a sharp knife VERY carefully to do this.
Also thin out the surface of the nail near the top with an emery board. Throw the emery board away after use. The tips of the healthy nails should be thin enough that you can feel your finger scratching on top of the nail.
2. Once a day: Brush the affected nails with the tooth brush and a soap solution for several minutes and rinse well. Pat dry. Let dry well.
3. Clean the toothbrush well with hot soap and water, set aside to dry - do not place where someone ends up using it in their mouth!
4. Then apply liquid toe nail fungus twice a day (AM/PM) on entire nail and skin next to nail, also under nail.
After two weeks you should see the new nail growing and getting longer - covering the while nail bed as it used to be.
If necessary repeat. Keep using the fungal soltion until gone.
Use sandals if you can. Else change into clean socks twice a day. The fungus is an infection and you can spread it around. You can get it back from shoes your wore before.
Cured mine. Prevention is the key. Keep an eye on your toes afterwards. Any sign of trouble start applying liquid as you did before. You may have to use it all the time.
Clip your toe nails regularly. Sterilize the nail clipers after use. Never use anyone else's nail clippers, hair brush, tooth brush.

HELP!!My friend has an ingrown toe nail and she wants to get surgery should she?
when my friend was little she cliped her toe nails a lot and as she got older they grew weird and people can get it taken out but she dosnt know what she should do.Help her plz!!!!HELP!!My friend has an ingrown toe nail and she wants to get surgery should she?
Well, it's her choice,it's her foot, it's from her decisions. She can either get surgery, or learn to live with it.Maybe do some research or see a doctor...I think it depends on if the ingrown toe nail is causing pain...she'll make the right choice. Also never do anything in this kind of thing (involving surgery, sickness, and stuff like that) with out consulting a doctor first.HELP!!My friend has an ingrown toe nail and she wants to get surgery should she?
Surgery is the best option. They usually numb the toe and pull the toe nail off then bandage it up and let a new better one grow back on its own...
YES!! There are 2 kinds of surgery for this. A doctor can remove the nail that is causing the infection but it may grow back correctly or grow back ingrown again. The other thing they can do is kill the nail so it doesn't grow as wide anymore. I didn't want that, but I kept having them so I had it done. Now I don't have problems anymore. By the way the procedure itself looks painful, but it's painless because they use novicane. The novicane insertion is the worst part, burns, but not too bad.
ok if it is that bad maybe you should but i had one and it hurt alot but what you should do is take something like a metal pointy thing and lift the nail out of the skin every hour so that the nail can grow straight and dont cut your nail it will make it worse because it cant grow out and btw before you lift the nail with the pointy thing soak your foot in hot water it will soften the nail
yes she should get it taken out, i had that done to my ingrown toe nail and it doesn't bother me anymore
if its bothering her and/or if its painful, then yes i would reccomend removal...
but if its not really bothering her that much, then she can live with it...
unless she just has the money to get the surgery, then she can do whatever she wants...
No 'cause no one care about her toe so it shouldn't be a problem to her .
ask the doctor if there any other cure apart from surgery.
GOOD LUCK
Surgery is the only way.
i defiently say surgery is the best way and than her toe nails will feel much better!
tell her that if she can't clip the spurs off herself.. then yes surgery is best.. it sucks and it's gross and VERY PAINFUL... but it's worth it
She won't have any real toenails on the toes operated on until after a year.. so she need to have a decent level of self esteem because it will only make things worse if she has low self esteem if you have any questions about the procedure ask me I got my left bid toenail removed last March, and it on has two little pieces of nail growing on the top corners... they look like spider fangs, lol
Her toe will hurt especially the first time the bandaged is changed... and the nail bed will be BLACK, because of the silver nitrate they put on it, and the procedure will be done by her doctor, he will numb her toe and tell her to look away as he cuts UP the middle and to the sides. Because she's young...like me ... the doctor WON'T put acid on the nail matrix (that would stop any re-growth)
you need to soak it in camomille for like a hour then push back the skin and clipped the nail like a square
yeah probably.. thats what my brother did, hes fine now! haha.. yeah go for the surgery, for sure ^_^
I would recommend not getting the surgery. Use that as a LAST resort. Just see a doctor about it and take his/her advice.
always ask your doctor first, if the problem is serious surgery may be the only option, but until you know for sure what to do a good way to help it would be soaking your foot/feet in hot water mixed with hydrogen proxide which you can get at a grocery store. medications are avalible to help also... hope this helps a little bit!
ok............ewwwwwwwwwwww!
let her go through wih the surgery
she should
yes have surgery.
i did.
it doesnt hurt at all.
and after you'll never get another one on that toe.
[its the way they take it out]
:)
hope i helped.
Yepp, the only other way is to pull it out and that hurts like hell. My sister had that done. They gave her something to drink and it put her to sleep, then they did it while she was under anesthetics. It doesn't hurt at all she said, and she was 12.
It is possible to get sugery to correct severe cases of this. She should go to her doctor and ask him to take a look at it.
mosquito:surgery is not the only way! how would the indians back in ancient times do it?
ok well i get these ALL the time in fact i have 1 right this minute but on my finger. what i do is if it is infected, i go to the doc and get a medicine for it. well i used to but i am alergic to it and i learned that the hard way. but anyways what i have to do now is soke it in warm water with salt in it each night. this will speed up the process of it growing out and the salt is a natraul way. have u ever herd to go in salt water when u have a cut? it is the same reason. the salt helps the cut to heal faster. if this does not help w/in about 1-2 weeks (i know it takes an unberable time) the i would see a doc. but now dont u see what u can do natrually w/out all that surgery stuff? good luck and lots of love!
Sweetpea
this sounds bad %26amp; serious.
surgery is probably the safest %26amp; most effective option she has.
I've lost count of how many blummin ingrown nails I've ha. The first time, my mum shoved a pair of socks in mouth and literally ripped it out. Nice.
Just tell her to go to the doctors. They can give you tablets or medicine and it basically just makes it come out. Well that's what happened to me anyway. It grows back.
Sorry if it sounds a bit disgusting!
x
no just yank it out, itll hurt but surgery for that it stupid
yes. lower the risk of infection
If that's what her doctor recommends and the nail bothers her, then she should do it. Unless it's really bad, I can't imagine the 'surgery' is more that doctor's office outpatient.
yes indeed surgery is the best thing
i had the same problem and i didnt want to go to the doctors for some reason maybe i was afraid and after a while i had the courage to go and i had surgery and that was no best thing because if i left it to long it might of been even harder!!
tell ur friend to go as quick as she can!!
otherwise she might end up with the nail!
good luck to ur friend
xxxx
if she needs it that badly yes she should get the surgery
go to a foot doctor. its not a major surgery. i had it done when i was thirteen. it hurts pretty bad and the 5 needles being injected into your foot is not exactly pleasant and its difficult to walk and wear shoes for the next few days after but its worth it because it will heal and you will feel better. the doctor will probably also give you antibiotics to prevent infection. id say go for it.
well, i happen to get ingrown toe nail at least once a month. It hurts!! but just make sure you get the puss out. Then soak it in hot water. HOT HOT water, it will burn but then it will get numb. Then out peroxcide on it. There are also anitbiotics you need to take to help. Soak your foot atleast 3 times a day. After you soak it use tweesers to try and take some of it out. If her normal toe nail has grown weird then go to a doctor.
Hope this helps!

My fiance was cleaning the nail polish off her toes when the tool she was using lifted her toe nail part off?
She was cleaning around the edges when the file she was using went under her big toe and lifted it part of the way off. Some of the nail is still attached to the nail bed but she noticed a new nail was growing in already. there was no change in color or thickness of the nail prior to the incident and still not after. My fiance was cleaning the nail polish off her toes when the tool she was using lifted her toe nail part off?
donate her nail to her....!My fiance was cleaning the nail polish off her toes when the tool she was using lifted her toe nail part off?
SO WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION? IF IT DOES NO HURT PULL IT OFF AND KEEP IT CLEAN. OR SHE CAN LEAVE IT ALONE AND IT WILL FALL OFF ON ITS OWN.

Can i paint over a toe nail thats falling off?
one of my toe nails is falling off(gross i know) can i just keep painting over it with nail polish or will it get infected? Can i paint over a toe nail thats falling off?
As long as the toenail is completely falling off and not infected or bleeding or anything like that at this point then yes, its fine. I stubbed my toe really bad and (my toes were painted at the time) I never took the paint off and once the wound healed and it began to lift I did carefully paint it again. Go ahead and rock it now because pretty soon you won't have a toe nail to paint at all!! :-)Can i paint over a toe nail thats falling off?
Well i have no experience with nail polish but i assume painting over it would sting like hell when you try and i also assume it would be bad if you let that soak into your toe, id say no. Wear socks for now.
As long as the toenail is completely falling off and not infected or bleeding or anything like that at this point then yes, its fine. I stubbed my toe really bad and (my toes were painted at the time) I never took the paint off and once the wound healed and it began to lift I did carefully paint it again. I cut my toe nails too short on the edges, how do i prevent it from becoming an ingrown toe nail?
i have had this problem before, the dr told me to gently lift up on the edges of the toe nail and stick small piece of cotton under it until it groes out.

Black toe nail polish, good or bad?
I am going to a wedding and wearing a bubble gum pink tank and black pants. I don't want to clash my pink, so would black be too much on my toes or would it look good.Black toe nail polish, good or bad?
Well, i would go for if you really want to wear it or you can't mach the pink on your tank top but personally, i would say just get a french pedicure. Those always look hot and are pretty cheap to get done professionally. THere are also do it yourself kits that cost like 5 bucks!Black toe nail polish, good or bad?
I don't think it would have a negative effect on the look of your outfit. But neither do I think that it will do alot for you either.
So it depends on what you are wanting.
If it were me I'd go with the black. I'd rather have them look more at my top half than the bottom.
Black polish on your nails, yes! On your toes? No. Try white french tips or just a softer color.
not if you're wearing black pants too. try bright orange nail polish instead (but then you might look to fruity, lol.)
i think it would be too much.
it would clash.
I think black would be really cool. Plus its totally in right now. =)
I think white would look beter : )
i think it will clash. try... yellow, orange or white

What do you do for a torn toe nail?
my daughter just stubbed her toe on the door and her toe nail bent back and tore in half. it's bleeding too. what should we do for it?What do you do for a torn toe nail?
Orajel. It's not just for teeth.
I put it on a nail I had to cut behind the line....Pain was gone so I could do it right.
Seriously, orajel is a wonderful local pain killer for nails. What do you do for a torn toe nail?
First stop the bleeding by applying slight pressure with a wet washcloth. Then try the orajel like the person above me said. Then use a banage (They have one designed especially to fit the toenail). Everyday also put on some nail strengther, that will help it grow back faster.applying make up

Toe nail roots blocked, How to regrow it??
What u could do if the toe nails roots have been blocked due to frequent surgical nail removals and its not coming back??? Doctor said it cant come back:-(Toe nail roots blocked, How to regrow it??
The ';root'; of the toenail is the part that causes the nail to grow. It is called the matrix. If the matrix was destroyed in the course of toenail removal, the nail will not grow back. If the matrix is intact, there can be regrowth. Your doctor should know whether or not your matrix was affected by your surgeries.Toe nail roots blocked, How to regrow it??
Well if the toenail bed is damaged or irrepairable, then there's nothing you can do to re-grow your nails.
Why did you need to have repeated nail removals? Chronic ingrown nails? Infections? Malformation?
You have two identical questions, so perhaps you have the same problem affecting your two toes! As for solution, you should leave them alone without causing any further damages and over a period of time they could start growing again! The doctor may have his own reasons for saying what he said but it seems he is somewhat ignorant!

I dont know whats wrong with my toe nail?
the side of my toe nail is really swollen and ugly.. i dont know what to do to make it better and make it heal...it hurts a lot when ever i like barely touch....what should i do..PLZ HELP!I dont know whats wrong with my toe nail?
Hello, It sounds like you have an ingrown toenail. You need to visit a Dr. Scholl's clinic or a doctor who can soak your foot and cut the nail properly taking the piece of nail out that is acting like a splinter. If, for example, the sore side is on the right, after soaking your foot for a half hour in warm, soapy water, you cut with cuticle scissors under and down to the right at an angle to the right...and just lift it out...Then dissenfect the wound. Pat the area dry and apply antibiotic ointment and cover with a bandage.I dont know whats wrong with my toe nail?
Its infected, its got oozy stuff under the skin. Put a hot wash cloth on it for a while, and if you see a head on it pop it so the gunk can come out

Wear mole skin if the tissue is tender when you wear shoes. (its not real mole skin, I dont know why they call it that, but they do, its a pad material that you trim to fit the toe)

Who can you get rid of a fungus thats been on your toe nail for a long time ? ?
someone asked me that question earlier %26amp; i didn't know what to answer them so can someone please answer this ?
thanks.
Who can you get rid of a fungus thats been on your toe nail for a long time ? ?
I had a fungus on my feet that didn't respond to usual store treatment. I discovered that mouth wash has anti-fungal ingredients. I soaked my feet in the stuff for a few nights and was cured.
But a toenail might be tougher. Sometimes they have to remove it to cure it.Who can you get rid of a fungus thats been on your toe nail for a long time ? ?
Toenail fungus common but contaigous. Soak feet in soapy water. Cut toenails down and keep short. For infected nails cut down as far as you can. Scrub with an old toothbrush to get as far down to nail bed as possible. Buy a fungicide and use daily. OR Vicks vaporub daily until gone. Be patient.
wash your feet, get a pedicure and if all else fails go to a doctor.
Wash your feet, clip your nails, buy some medicine. ****.
whash your friggin feet daily! and clip your toe nails!
thanks.

How is the best way to get rid of an ingrown toe nail without seeing a doctor?
Trim your nails ...and keep it clean all the time. Clean it with hydrogen peroxide. It helps a lot !How is the best way to get rid of an ingrown toe nail without seeing a doctor?
Hi!
When I was younger, a CRUSHED ALL my toes; resulting in EVERYONE of them becoming infected and ingrown.
I couldn't see a Dr' so what I did was pull EACH nail out with some TIME and tolerance to pain; I then ran some hot water with salt and let my feet soak in there for 30 Minutes.
After the soak, I dried my feet and put bandages ONTO the toes. Then kept them elevated for 2 days. This helped the healing process; once the healing began I now have NO toe nails on ANY of the toes but the pain is NEVER here now so its good.
However, if you want to stop an ingrowing toe nail without going to extreme length's like me... Just cut the nails a little far back and use salt water (NOT Hydrogen peroxide as it is dangerous in the blood stream) to clean the wound and it will fight any infection.
Hope this helps!
Hairball :-)How is the best way to get rid of an ingrown toe nail without seeing a doctor?
I have one too. I hate it. I am a dancer and it hurts worse than h*ll!!!!
My advice, buy a pedicure kit like this... http://www.amazon.com/Body-Toolz-Deluxe-鈥?/a>
Then use the think that is all metal and is flat and has two sides, one a tiny bit rounded and one flat, both with ';heads'; on them (something a tiny tiny tiny bit sharp-ish) and use that to pick out where it is ingrown. Do that after you shower to soften the skin. It hurts but that way you can avoid a doctor. Good luck!
cut your toe nail off then eat it if you like

Can you paint over a black toe nail?
I blackened my toenail by falling off a skateboard ramp. Is there like flesh colored toenail polish you can use to cover a black toenail? I'm getting tired of looking at it.Can you paint over a black toe nail?
beige is too weak to cover anything and the whole contrast will look very odd. in the meantime, you can sport a wide, flesh-colored band-aid over your toe and wear socks -OR- you could paint all your nails black and go gothic for a couple weeks...Can you paint over a black toe nail?
there are nail polishes , but youll be able to notice theres nail polish over it itll be sninny and stuff, and it prolly wouldnt cover it enough anyway
i dont know much armount blacked toe nails, but wont it grow out? or couldnt you use a nail buffer on it maybe?
eww dude toe nail polish is for girls............be a man and deal wit it!! haha umm seriously i would just leave it alone.
Most flesh-toned nail polish tends to be partially transparent, but a couple of coats could greatly decrease the visibility.
Edit: Check the Healthy and Beauty area at a department store. You should be able to locate some cheap French Manicure kits containing flesh-colored polish.
I have the same problem, but it wasn't caused from skateboarding. I do paint over it, the best I can, with various colors, but then again, I'm a female. You can find flesh colored tones, just be sure it's enamel, because enamel stays longer, and has a denser quality to it that will cover the blackness. It takes a lllloonnnnnggg time for these to grow out, doesn't it? Yikes!

What is an ingrown toe nail? What is wrong with the toe nail when this occures?
An ingrown toenail (onychocryptosis) occurs when part of the nail penetrates the skin, which can often result in an infection. The ingrown nail can also apply pressure in the nail fold area without penetrating the skin - this is not technically an ingrown toe nail, but can also be painful (a corn/callus is also common down the side of the nail and is a reaction to this pressure, rather than the nail actually penetrating the skin).
Usually the side of the nail penetrates deep and it is difficult to see the edge of the nail. The severity of appearance of the nail will vary. Some will just have a nail that appears deeply embedded down the side or sides of the nail. In some the corner or a small spike of nail may penetrate the skin, just like a knife. This can result in an infection and the development of proud flesh (granulation tissue). The toe will then be red, inflamed and painful.
Pain is the main symptom of an ingrown toe nail - usually just starting as some minor discomfort. This may be just the pressure from the side of the nail or it may be because the nail has actually penetrated the skin down the side of the nail. The toe is not necessarily infected, but this can develop after the nail penetrate the skin to become ingrown. The infection can spread, making the toe red and inflamed (paronychia). A collection of pus may also develop.
Poor cutting of the nail is most commonly blamed as being the cause of an ingrown toe nail, but this is not necessarily the case. The following factors are involved in the cause of ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis):
the primary risk factor is the shape of the nail - a nail that is more curved from side to side rather than being flat is more likely to become an ingrown nail (incurvated nails). Some nails go down the side into the nail fold area for a relatively large distance. A large portion of the nail is almost vertical rather than being horizontal. The most severe of these types of nail is called a 'pincer nail' in which both side of the nail are very curved. The shape of the nail is usually inherited (congenital), but it can be influenced by trauma and/or shoe pressure.
poor cutting of these types of nails can leave a sharp corner (or if worse, a small spike) that will initially cause symptoms by putting pressure on the skin and then later penetrate the skin. Trimming too far down the sides is a common cause of an ingrown toe nail.
footwear that is tighter is more likely to increase pressure between the skin in the nail fold and nail, increasing the risk on an ingrown nail.
previous trauma to the nail may alter the shape of the nail, making it more prone to becoming an ingrown nail
pressure from the toe next to the nail that has ingrown can sometime be a factor
a 'chubby' or fleshy toe is more likely to have a nail grow into it. Those whose feet swell are a lot are more prone to having this happen. What is an ingrown toe nail? What is wrong with the toe nail when this occures?
Okay I am a 12 year old girl but I know what I am talking about. Let me start off by saying I suffer from constant ingrown toe nails. An in grown toenail is when the nail splits and while when half is going straight the other is growing into your skin and it hurts. It is usually swollen. The best thing to do is to soak your foot and then have your mom or dad or even your self get a little NAIL digger and find the nail. It is going to hurt but once you find the nail take a clipper and clip it. Carful not to cut your skin! after you clip it take neosporin put it on the area and put a band aid on. I am always getting them actually last night my mom got rid of it for me because it HURT SO MUCHWhat is an ingrown toe nail? What is wrong with the toe nail when this occures?
it's when the toenail grows into the skin surrounding it. I had this once and they had to cut a good part of my toenail away. If you have one, get it taken care of soon, as they can be painful.
go to the doctor. the longer you wait the more it hurts

How do I fix a cracked toe nail?
I stumped my BIG toe on the table and my nail broke in half but its still attached at the side. I put peroxide and bandage it, but I'm not sure if I should cut it out, or pull it off, or leave it and bandage it till it grows out? How long would it take? HELPPPPPPP!!!!!How do I fix a cracked toe nail?
unschool's answer is exactly what you should do. Leave it alone or it could get infect and develop gangrene...How do I fix a cracked toe nail?
i feel so bad for you this will take 2 weeks to get back to normal. the best this you can do is cut is so it does not hang out and just keep cutting it as it gets longer.
You need to just keep it clean and bandaged up. It will fall off on it's own or grow out. Do not pick or try to take it off.

Does your nail polish suppose to match your toe nail color?
im painted my nails in pink and i'm wearing sandals should i paint my toe nails in pink too?Does your nail polish suppose to match your toe nail color?
You don't have to, but I think it looks a lot better and clean that way, if they are matching.
But do whatever! :DDoes your nail polish suppose to match your toe nail color?
i always do so
your toes should be 1 or 2 shades darker than your fingernails.
i read that in seventeen.
it doesn't matter you do what is best! :)
They absolutely do not have to match! I like to match mine (I always get french mani/pedis), but you don't have to. It's better though, I think, if the colors compliment each other. So with the pink, you could go french (it goes with anything), orange (if you want something bright), or red (for a classic).
I hope this helps!
If you want. Personally I wouldn't
You don't have to. You can do whatever you want. They're toenails! Have fun!
yeah it' more nice =) cause it matches
Yup! :) It's prettier that way!

Dog is limping from split toe nail?
My Australian Shepard has been limping the past couple of days. I found no swelling or broken bones. I finally discovered that one of her toe nails has a slight split (like a sliver)
I thought about breaking it off, but thought this might make it worse. Would it be OK if I did that or will this heal over time?
ThanksDog is limping from split toe nail?
This is very painful for the dog - would be for you too, and every time he walks on it, it is excrutiating.
You absolutely need to get him to the vet to have the nail clipped - don't do this yourself - have it bandaged and he may need antibiotics, these things get infected.
Don't wait any longer, get him to the vet. This happened with one of my dogs and he needed to go to the vet. It's pretty bad for the dog - nails are very sensitive when they break like that, and a dog's nails are too hard for the nail to come off by itself, it must be attended to so no infection sets in.Dog is limping from split toe nail?
My dog gets these sometimes, and I just carefully clip it off. But he usually doesn't have a problem with it, such as limping, so it may be deep or something else going on. I'd have the vet take a look.
That would be like ripping of your own finger nail.....i would defo take him to the vet, they will remove it with the greatest of ease, and your pooch may need an antibiotic or something x
How about you ask a vet to make 100% sure because it could get infected from the paw being on the ground walking on everything!
Don't break it off. Get dog toe nail clippers and snip it off. It will grow back and be fine. That might not be the problem though.
have the vet check it out

Check out a DoctorDoes anyone know how to get rid of fungus from your big toe nail?
If your talking about the discoloration that happens beneath the toe nail - I forget what it's called right now - but it can't be remedied from over the counter topical medications. I have had this before. It's cured by a pill, taken over time....like a few months. This kind of pill is also expensive. Best to go in to a food doctor for an exam and recommendation. It's fruitless to try home or drugstore remedies.
my sister in law had her toe mail removed because of fungus on it .... it never grew back
I found the answer to this on the web several years ago. Put Lamisil topical cream on and all around the nail after thoroughly cleaning it. Then, Put a tight cover over the nail such as the tip from latex or latex free hand gloves ( used medically and also found in hardware stores). Cleaning the nail daily, and applying this method by wearing the cover during the day and freshly applying at night, you can dispense with the fungus in maybe 6 months. The site I saw said 3 months, but it probably depends on a variety of factors. Although this sounds tedious, oral methods can be bad for your health. There are also topical applications at the drug sore, but they may not work. This method works if you're willing to put the time in.
You can try soaking in hydrogen peroxide but if its real serious (an infection) you'll need to get a prescription.
the doctor doesapplying make up

Wat should i do with my little toe nail?
i have over a couple of years have cut it short on one side and only half of it remains. is there any chance that it would grown back?? even though it hasn't.Wat should i do with my little toe nail?
i have troubles with my toe nails due to the fact i have a horse and i am too stuborn to wear shoes around him.
I have found that after afew years, yes your toe nail grows back but never fully. I know some people dont, depending on there nail and that, but yeah.
Dont try to cut it much though, i only trim the bits of mine that would be trouble if i didnt, but dont try to cut it back again because that makes the hole situation worse
